Frequently Asked Questions

HOW MUCH DO YOUR CAKES COST?

There are many factors to determine the correct pricing for your cake and prices vary according to your requirements – size of cake, shape of cake, decoration required, cake toppers, edible printing, hire of cake stands and many other options.

All of our cakes are individually designed and priced. Our pricing listed above is a guide only, but it will give you an idea of cake costs.

DO YOU OFFER DELIVERY?

We offer delivery and set up of our cakes to the Brisbane region starting at $65.00.

The cost of delivery will vary depending on the time we need to set up your cake at your venue, parking availability, traffic, road closures etc, but don’t worry we will quote separately for delivery.

Delivery and set up for cakes for the Gold & Sunshine Coast regions start at $120.00.

CAN I PICK MY CAKE UP FROM YOU?

Pick up is only available for single tier and small 2 tier cakes, all other cake sizes should be delivered so that they arrive and are set up safely and without hassle to you and your guests.
We suggest that if you’re collecting your cake you make sure you have a flat surface to put the cake on such as the car boot or the front passenger floor.  If you have someone who can come with you to help keep an eye on the cake it’s a great idea.
We strongly recommend that holding the cake on your lap or car seat to transport it is a terrible idea – it will not survive the trip!

WHAT SIZE CAKE DO I NEED?

The serving sizes listed below are based on your cake being the main event as dessert size portions for a standard height tier.

 

If your cake is not going to be the main event generally smaller portions will be enough to give everyone a taste so you may wish to order a smaller size cake.

HOW TALL ARE YOUR CAKES?

We have 3 height options to choose from with our cakes:
1. Standard – A standard height tier is approx 5 inches high and consists of 3 layers of cake (we suggest this size for all tiered cakes and cutting cakes)
2. Tall – A tall height tier is approx 7 inches high and consists of 4 layers of cake (we suggest this size for the taller look 2 tier cakes)
3. Double barrel – A double barrel height tier is approx 9 inches high and consists of 6 layers of cake (we suggest these for our single tier cakes)

HOW FAR OUT FROM MY FUNCTION SHOULD I ORDER MY CAKE?

For wedding cakes I can take your booking up to a year in advance. However I like to take your booking after you have had your consultation with your florist. This allows me to offer design ideas to incorporate your theme. Please note that popular wedding months (spring and autumn) book out very quickly.

I suggest you order your cake as soon as you are able to avoid disappointment.

For special occasion cakes such as birthday’s, anniversaries, engagement parties etc we suggest you contact us to check availability at least 1-2 months prior.

WHEN DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR MY CAKE?

We require a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure your date, your cake must be paid in full 1 month prior to collection or delivery.  If you order your cake within 1 month of your event you will need to pay the full amount to secure your booking date.

Unfortunately cancellations within the 8 week period prior to your even date forfeit all deposits.

DOES CAKE MY DAY BY JO CATER FOR SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS?

Some of our cupcakes are available with a gluten free option. However, we do advise that all of our products are produced using the same kitchen facilities and utensils. We are unable to guarantee that our cakes do not have traces of nuts, eggs etc.  At this stage we cannot cater for dairy free, vegan, egg free cakes.

CAN MY CAKE TIERS BE DIFFERENT HEIGHTS?

Of course.  If you would like your cake to have different heights in the tiers just let us know when you email or talk to us or at your cake tasting.  We call these tall or double barrel tiers.

Extended and double barrel tiers are a great way to add height to your cake and create interest in a particular tier – such as a tier that has a monogram or particular decoration you wish to highlight.

IS CAKE MY DAY BY JO LICENSED AND INSURED?

Absolutely!  We hold a 4 star eat safe licence from Brisbane City Council and we have public liability insurance.

DOES CAKE MY DAY BY JO BAKE FRESH OR USE PRE-MIXES?

FRESH FRESH FRESH!  We bake all of our cakes fresh from scratch within 1-2 days of your order being due. 

IS IT SAFE TO PUT FRESH FLOWERS ON MY CAKE?

YES! - I am very particular about what goes into my cakes and flowers are no exception. 

Once I receive flowers from a florist I give them a good wash in a food safe solution to remove any surface nasty's and to give them an extra moisture boost.  Once they are washed the stems are double coated in safety seal (a food grade wax) to seal them.  I apply them to the cake using dollops of buttercream (it's like edible glue).  This way nothing is poked into the cake that could potentially harm your guests.  The exception to this is some flowers are highly toxic and we do not use these at all (i.e Baby's Breath).  

So now you understand how the process works, this is why we request flowers for your cake are received by us the day prior to your event and not left at the venue for us to apply when we deliver your cake - we simply can't ensure their safety.

CAKE TASTING CONSULTATION FAQ's

 

CAN ANYONE BOOK A CAKE TASTING CONSULTATION?

No! - Our Cake Tasting Consultation times are very limited and we can only offer them to our wedding and engagement clients who are spending $350 or more with us for their cake. 

 

DO I HAVE TO HAVE RECEIVED A QUOTE TO BE ABLE TO BOOK IN FOR A CONSULTATION?

Yes! - You must have received a quote prior to booking a cake tasting consultation as we only have a limited number of appointments available each month.  We want to make sure that you are aware of the costs associated with your cake and that we have availability to make your order before we sit down to discuss it with you in detail.

This is the best way to ensure nobody’s valuable time is wasted.

WHEN ARE CAKE TASTING CONSULTATIONS HELD?

Our cake tasting consultations are held monthly on a Saturday & Sunday.  This way we hope we are able to cater for everybody's availability.  To see the date of our next available consultations or to book CLICK HERE 

CAN I REQUEST A CAKE CONSULTATION OUTSIDE OF THE LISTED DATES?

Unfortunately we can not offer consultations outside our set dates.

I CAN'T ATTEND A CAKE TASTING CONSULT HOW CAN I TRY YOUR CAKES BEFORE I ORDER?

We offer tasting boxes which are avalable for collection most Saturday's.

HOW LONG DO THE CONSULTATIONS TAKE?

The consultation process takes approx. 30- 40 minutes. 

In this time we will discuss your cake needs in detail over a cuppa tea or coffee.

We will have 6 of your chosen flavours available for you and your partner to sample.

 

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

As of 1st June 2019 the cost of the cake tasting consultation is $40 for the couple (or 2 people) and is deductible from the final price of your order should you book your cake with us within the time-frame stated on your quote.

(NOTE: A 2.5% online transaction fee is added to all online orders and is not deductible from your order).

*Please do not ask to bring your friends and family to your consultation, we can only accommodate 2 people at each tasting session.

 

WHAT FLAVOURS CAN I SAMPLE AT THE CONSULT?

As of 1st June 2019 at your tasting consultation you can sample 7 of our delicious flavours.  These flavours are listed in the cake tasting consultation booking window or by checking out our current list of flavours HERE.

CAN I GET A REFUND FOR MY CAKE TASTING CONSULTATION IF I DO NOT ATTEND?

We are unable to offer refunds on our cake tasting consultations as times are very limited.  Once you have booked and reserved your time the booking is final.

 
 

TASTING BOX FAQ's

CAN ANYONE ORDER A TASTING BOX?

Yes! Our cake tasting boxes are available to all our clients.  If you are ready to book a tasting box CLICK HERE

 

CAN I COLLECT A TASTING BOX AT ANY TIME?

No! - Tasting boxes are only available for collection on Saturday mornings between 10am - 12pm as we work from a commercial kitchen in a private residence and can guarantee we will be available at this time for your collection.

CUT OFF TIME & DATE FOR TASTING BOX ORDERS!

Tasting box cut off dates are Thursday's 12pm for collection that Saturday.

If you order your tasting box after this time you will need to order for the following Saturday.

HOW MUCH DO TASTING BOXES COST?

As of 1st June 2019 the cost of our cake tasting boxes is $25. 

(The cost of your tasting box is not deductible from the final cost of your order).

(NOTE: A 2.5% online transaction fee is added to all online orders and is not deductible from your order).

WHAT FLAVOURS CAN I HAVE IN MY SAMPLE BOX?

As of 1st June 2019 our tasting boxes will contain 6 sample portions of your chosen flavours.  These flavours are listed in the cake tasting consultation booking window or by checking out our current list of flavours HERE.

CAN I GET A REFUND FOR MY CAKE TASTING BOX IF I DO NOT COLLECT IT AT THE AGREED TIME?

No! - We are unable to offer refunds on our cake tasting boxes as they are pre-prepared and packaged according to your flavour preferences.  Once you have booked and reserved a collection date & time the booking is final.
